Having recently merged two clubs together, namely The Explorers Club (which was 40 years old!) and the Munro Pineapple Society (long story...), UoNMC is now in its fifth year.
As a club we are passionate about getting outdoors and enjoy a range of activities from hillwalking to winter mountaineering. Whilst being a great place to go to university, Nottingham is not known for it's abundance of mountains so we try to get out to Wales, the Lake District and Scotland as much as possible throughout the year.
Previous trip include the Lake District, Snowdonia, Glen Coe, Fort William, Torridon, the Isle of Skye, the Alps...and Norway!
People who join the Mountaineering Club range from people who have never really been for a walk before to people with a relatively large amount of technical mountaineering experience. The Mountaineering Club simply provides a place to meet people with similar interests and we also try and team up with the other like minded clubs for socials. All of our members learn something everytime they go out; inexperienced and battle-hardened members alike learning new skills and developing old ones. Indeed, some people who have joined the club out of curiosity and with no desire to go climbing whatsoever have found themselves on hard routes in the Alps only a year later!
We have regular social so that you can meet like-minded people and to sign up for the trips. Our socials also serve as a good way to explore Nottingham's nightlife beyond Rock City and Ocean!
